The Bright and Dark Sides of Spring

Pastel Minnie Mouse is a title appropriate to label the wonderfully sweet Luella collection. Luella Bartley is right on point with her showcase of prim and proper cuts, cheerful color blocks, and delicately placed details fit for a lady. Symmetrical proportions allow the shapes to stand out and the colors to pop all on their own. The collection is a far cry from the outrageously patterned and cheeky looks of its past with its clean silhouettes and soft powdery colors. Despite Luella’s focus on classic shapes and simple patterns, there is still a playful infusion that retains Luella’s youthful outlook on fashion. The magnified polka dots, leg-conscious hemlines, and child friendly bows give a kitschy kick to the dressy collection, keeping true to its modern and fashion-forward roots. And this is why Luella will be forever loved and cherished in the fashion world. Long live Luella for keeping fashion lively!

On the opposite side of fashion’s bubbly and bright outlook, there is Miu Miu and Miuccia Prada’s play on the darker side of youth and psychology. There is a sense of hypnotism in the repetitive prints of cats and birds that instills some sort of deeper meaning to the normalcy of these objects. There is something complex about this subject, and Miu Miu expresses this by crossing back and forth over the line between childhood dreams and grown up temptations. Childhood whimsy is embraced through the eclectic hologram prints. Adult curiosity is explored in the shining crystalline details and provocative cut outs. Sexy dresses are reminded of more innocent days with small bursts of bright and pastel colors. The duplicity makes you think, and the end result is anything but boring.

And I just couldn't resist posting all these classic 2.55 Chanel purses! They were a favorite choice of arm candy at the shows from the front row to backstage. So, so pretty! I just can't stop staring. Classic Chanel is definitely the bright side of all seasons!
