i watched Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho obsessively for awhile a couple of years ago. i'm a sucker for '90s nostalgia. i'd watch the movie for a couple of times, then freeze frame certain clips i was drawn to and paint from there. now i hate sounding all art-class-critique but there's something interesting about painting from a frozen screen image. like stopping time or something like that. and that's about as deep i can get without nauseating myself.
this painting i did from the campfire scene where River Phoenix's character confesses his love to Keanu Reeves's character. who hasn't ever felt unrequited love before?
