Wayne Rooney's form - not his contract - is all that matters for England coach Fabio Capello. "If he's (in form) I'll play him, otherwise no. For anything else, you've got to ask (Manchester United manager Alex) Ferguson," Capello told Italian state radio RAI on Monday.
Rooney seemed ready to leave United when he questioned the club's ability to sign leading players last week, but then turned around and signed a new five-year contract. Rooney hurt his ankle in training last week and did not play in United's 2-1 win over Stoke on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Capello is casting his eye on developing English talents. "We have good young players, a good under-21 squad that has qualified for the European Championship and a great under-19 side," Capello said. "There's going to be some experiments with players in the next two friendlies." England plays France next month and will have another friendly in February before resuming Euro 2012 qualifying.
The 64-year-old Italian also confirmed his plans once his European championship commitments have ended. "After the Euros I'm definitely going to retire," Capello said. The Jakarta Post
