Young and Restless

Pictures from The Fashion Spot and We Heart It

I was watching Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet last night with Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Daines. I fell in love again with Shakespeare (and with Leonardo, as well) all over. I haven't read Shakespeare since my university days, but the movie had me thinking about young love and rebellion. The feeling of passion so strong that you would do anything to keep it alive and ferociously burning. It's such a beautiful story. Sad but so beautiful. I then started thinking about another one of my favorite movies, The Virgin Suicides. Gosh, it's hard being a teenager. With dreams, hopes, levels that we strive to reach but never seem to quite exactly touch. Add hormones, first loves, and broken hearts on top of that and you've got one crazy mix. I cannot believe I survived that all and actually came out quite alright. But with youth, an air of softness and purity always seems to stay in tact amongst all the craziness. Like a powdery shadow of reality. A peak at what could have been if we all didn't try to grow up too fast. There's nothing more fascinating to me than our teenage years. The restless nature of being in-between and in limbo. Of being there, but not quite there. I need a new book to dig my teeth in. Another teenage rebellion / awkward stage story that will put me in a nostalgic mood. Does anybody have any suggestions?
