Taggalicious!

So it seems like I got my first tag from the lovely The World is My Catwalk, so here it goes!

The rules:
(1) Link back to the meme creator: Caz
(2) Link to the person who tagged you: The World is My Catwalk
(3) Link back to the originator of the positive SA movement (as this is how this all started): Cheap Thrills
(4) List five reasons you love your state.

My "state" would be Aklan, and more specifically, my island, Boracay.

1. - Kiteboarding. *swoon*. I love waking up at sunrise, in my board shorts and bikini, rahsguard in tow, racing over to the other side of the island on my bike, checking how strong the wind is on kite beach, making tea, pumping a kite, setting up my lines and stretching while smearing on sunscreen before launching my kite and sliding onto the refreshing cool waters while the sun glistens and reflects off it, and then heading for the reef all by myself, wind rushing in my ears and salt water splashing on my face..

2. - The people. Filipinos are usually very friendly, very smiley and hospitable people, and we love to get together and have parties, and eat and drink and be merry. The people on the island are a mix of filipinos, europeans, australians and americans, and is quite the melting pot, but it seems to me like no matter what nationality they are, they all still are filipino at heart. We are either a very large family or a very small country of our own, usually un-affected by everything that goes on off the island, and always fiercely protective of our beautiful little island in the middle of the land of the 7000 islands, and I have created bonds that will last me a lifetime, and learned from the stories of the many travellers that come in and out and learned from those around me, how to just be happy and just be me.

3. - The parties! We sure know how to celebrate here. These are the highlights of the year; there is monsoon season also known as off season which is summer to the other side of the world, that is when the rain falls more than usual, and the locals have little get togethers to celebrate nothing in particular, but just being merry, and enjoying eachothers compay. We have poker nights, foosball nights, or just get together and have BBQ's. Then there is the start of the season, and its first event, Halloween, which you must bring a costume for, because we locals take this very seriously. Then there is of course christmas, and New Year which is when we have the best amount of people, not too crowded, and everyone is out on white beach until sunrise, which is when we all head to bolabog beach [kite beach] to watch the sunrise and double rainbows and everything nature offers us for the new year. Then there are the frisbee, dragonboat and kiteboarding competitions, fashionshows, carnivals etc. Summer is the philippines is around easter and that is when the island gets packed with local and foreign tourists, and marks the end of our kite season, and the final run of party season. The beach is lined with events, stages everywhere, bands, international DJ's bikini contests, firedancing contests etc. It never gets boring. And then of course there are the birthday parties throughout the year. Lets just say we rarely stop partying around here.

4. - The beach. As you can tell by my blog title, I am absolutely infatuated with our beaches here. No explanations needed, our beaches, with their powdery soft white sands are the main reason why ist so hard to leave this place. I love my high heels and boots and whathaveyou.. but there is nothing like the sand in between my toes.

5. - The sunsets. Need I say more?
