I've been trying to keep up the best I can with all the shows taking place in New York City, even though I try not to pay too much attention to trends. I just wear what I like. Simple as that. Breaking styles down into categories makes things too restrictive for me. Anyways, here are some of my favorite looks so far that I dream about wearing. I am saving them here so I can remember to come back and try my hand at my own versions of a few next spring.
Rebecca Taylor
I think this is the ultimate downtown city girl dream wardrobe right here. I'm really digging the 3/4 length sheer skirts. This is fashion's new length I think. And those prints just jump out at you, but they are not too in your face. The collection was flirty yet edgy at the same time. Basically everything I want to wear. Oh, and that red dotted dress . . . I die!
Jason Wu
Jason Wu, all I can say is that I love that young sophistication you bring to fashion that is still completely wearable. I have been obsessing with all the skirts shown at fashion week (now I know that I definitely need more of them), and Wu's ladylike ones make wearing cocktail style during the day a snap. Also, I am officially on the hunt for a chic turban that doesn't look ridiculous on my round head. Oh, and that last dress shown here is amazing. There is a 3D cutout illusion of sorts going on in the front. I want to frolic in a garden in it.
Rodarte
There were so many gorgeous and out of this world metallic gold dresses at this show that I would love to wear on the red carpet if I were a celebrity or goddess from another planet. But because I am not said person I found eyes more focused on the collection's more approachable, casual looks. Is that a pastel pistachio-toned skirt and blouse I see? Such a delectable color. And I adored the fall-hued checker and polka dotted patterns. They are unexpected, but totally work for the earthy spring season. Everything was just too, too yummy to ignore, like always when it comes to anything Rodarte.
Rachel Comey
I have always been a huge fan of Comey since I first discovered her last year. Everything is so simple, so wearable, and so effortless. Her latest collection is full of warm-weather friendly essentials that you can rely on season after season. She used to work for Theory, and I see where her practical perspective comes from. Yet, it's still kitschy enough with its prints and micro lengths to appeal to even fashion's most eclectic of dressers.
Michael Kors
Kors was so minimalistic and toned down this season. I felt resonances of a little Celine here and there with the simplistic cuts and neutral color palette, but also some J. Crew with its masculine meets feminine ivy-league approach to styling that was updated with pops of bright colors (that shiny green skirt paired with the preppy collared shirt is genius). I can tell just by looking at these clothes that I will be extremely comfortable in them from head to toe without looking anything but chic, and that is what I appreciate most.
Marc by Marc Jacobs
I watched this show through the live stream on the Marc Jacobs website, and each look down the runway just kept getting better and better. Marc by Marc is always fresh, young, and totally upbeat. I want to wear his clothes with a cool pair of headphones on my head while walking to the beat of my favorite song. Again I was seeing 3/4 skirt lengths and feminine retro shapes. Obviously, the nautical trend is back, but this time it's brighter than ever! This is some serious stripe action going on here and I really like it. From the looks I chose as my favorites, together they create a good old American color palette, but the loud color saturation and fun shapes take things to a whole other level of newness.
