Stylista of the Week - Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker brought her style and savor faire to the red carpet this past week, as she left New York City for her Australian tour. What's great about Sarah Jessica is that she doesn't stick to a specific style, always keeping her looks fresh and interesting. That's why she is hailed as 'Stylista of the Week'...or maybe I just needed an excuse to feature her outrageous hat somewhere on my blog.

1. Sarah tried on a colour-block look by Narciso Rodriguez for the 'Tower Heist' movie premiere in New York. Her taffeta dress combines unusual shades of soft pink, burgundy-bronze and deep royal blue. Black straps, a bow-belt & pointy-toe Manolo's tie it all together.

2. For the premiere of her movie 'I Don't Know How She Does It' in Melbourne, Australia, Sarah wore a dress from Prabal Gurung's Spring 2012 collection. It has a metallic purple bodice and white pleated skirt, splattered with shimmery violet. She carries a spiked Christian Louboutin clutch and walks in Pierre Hardy heels, her trademark bouncy curls in place.

3. The Sex & the City actress displayed a more sleek look at New York City Center's Reopening Gala. She chose an ensemble from Antonio Berardi's Spring 2012 line. Her contrasting charcoal grey and black coat dress was worn with sheer print tights and Manolo Blahnik heels. Her pulled-back hair matches the sophistication of this look.

4. SJP was a vibrant presence at a press conference in Melbourne. Her gorgeous sunshine yellow dress with colourful abstract print is by Vera Wang. This is my favourite of all her outfits. Aqua pearls hung from her neck and white pointy-toed Manolo's bedded her feet.

5. Sarah channeled Carrie Bradshaw at Melbourne's Oaks Day Spring Carnival yesterday. The actress looked splendid and stately in a two-tone pale pink and white Jonathan Saunders dress. She paired it with a glossy slate grey Antonio Berardi coat. An ornate crystal headpiece, string of pearls and her favourite white Manolo heels completed her look.

6. Sarah Jessica did her fashionable take on 'Ladies who lunch' at the VRC Oak Club Luncheon in Australia. I don't think anyone noticed her tweed Chanel dress. Instead, all eyes were on her enormous and elaborate black sculpted hat by Philip Treacy. A tad too much perhaps? But you've got to take your hats off (no pun intended) to Sarah Jessica Parker. She isn't afraid to experiment with out-of-the-ordinary new looks.

Flo is looking GORGE in Chanel for her album cover shot by Mr.Lagerfeld himself. The indie singer looks like an old hollywood star in this picture. Florence is becoming one of Karl's new muse. She most recently performed at Chanel's last runway show.

Celeb Style - Ebony & Ivory

The idea of a 'classic black dress' will never tire, while the 'ivory evening gown' will always appear feminine and romantic. This is a clash of colours worn by stylish young celebs on the red carpet this week. Which do you prefer - dark and mysterious or light and airy?

Ebony
Michelle Williams donned a dress from Nina Ricci's Spring 2012 line for the '15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala'. Her blue-black strapless chiffon gown has metallic gold ribbon detailing on the neckline, and a sheer skirt.
Amber Heard wore all-black to the NYC premiere of her new movie, 'The Rum Diary', which also stars Johnny Depp. The blonde actress chose a modest Jean Paul Gaultier gown with high neck, long sleeves and belted waist. She was bold for choosing not to reveal any skin, but looked sexy and glamorous nonetheless.
Camilla Belle is sensational in a fitted Ralph Lauren gown, which she wore to an event celebrating the designer. It has a sheer neckline, shimmery bodice and ruffled skirt. Elegantly slicked back and hot pink lips complete her look. As I am a Camilla-style fan, I may be biased when I say this look is perfection.
AnnaLynne McCord looked poised in a simple cap-sleeved glittery Alice + Olivia 'Rumor' gown. As it was a charity event, she wore a yellow empowerment bracelet in honour of the 'Somaly Mam Foundation'. Her smokey eye make-up is stellar.

Ivory
Elizabeth Olsen looked like a modern-day fairy at the 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' (try to say that fast five times in a row) movie premiere in London. May-Kate & Ashley's little sister wore an ivory pink ensemble by Chanel Couture. Her square-neck beaded top was paired with a frothy tiered tulle skirt and gold satin Louboutin pumps. As much as I love the skirt, I wish the top were slightly more fitted. I find her make-up too heavy as well.

Jessica Biel was the latest star to walk ivory down the red carpet. She attended the 'Fashion Group International's Night of the Stars' event wearing Giambattista Valli. Her off-white gown was an interesting blend of two different styles - delicate with the soft, flowing fabric, and intrepid with the inflated ruffled sleeves. A bronze leaf belt clinched in her waist. Do you think this dress overwhelms her?

Rachel Zoe was in Los Angeles for 'Rodeo Drive's Walk of Style' event, honouring supermodel Iman. The stylist wore a sheer chiffon frilled blouse and high-waisted palazzo pants from her own fashion line. She looks effortlessly chic.

Coco Rocha was entrancing at the 'WGSN Global Fashion Awards' held in New York last week. The Canadian supermodel wore a tonal beige and ivory gown with layered skirt and embroidered shoulder harness and waistband. I am unfamiliar with designer Biphu Mohapatra, but this dress has me eager to see more from him.

Chutzpah's Weekly Barometer

A light hearted look back over the past week’s good, bad and indifferent including the “don’t even go there’s”.
LOVING
Dior and Anselm Reyle - A first for Dior as they team up with German artist, Reyle, for an eye-popping capsule range of accessories and make-up, conspicuously similar to Marc Jacobs' Vuitton collaborations with Stephen Sprouse and Richard Prince. Is this a sign? (Photo from

The Life Aquatic - Spring '12's infatuation with an Underwater Theme dissected.

One of the strongest themes to emerge from Paris Fashion Week for S/S'12 was that of underwater fantasy, of ethereal mermaids and rare oceanic treasures. Gentle cascades of shimmering frills at McQueen (below) brought to mind exotic amphibious creatures, whilst iridescent pearls and scale-like adornment trimmed Karl Lagerfeld’s amphibious fancy for Chanel (below, bottom), and a fictional love

Paris Fashion Week Favourites - Part Three

Paris Fashion Week

Spring/Summer 2012

Paris Fashion Week closed off another season of fabulous clothes, supermodels and remarkable designers. The biggest trends that have emerged for Spring 2012 are vibrant floral prints, citrus shades, cropped tops, pleating, lingerie-inspired outerwear, sheerness and belted waists. Although Spring is months away, it's never to early to be inspired.

Emanuel Ungaro

Emanuel Ungaro's newest designer Jeanne Labib-Lamour took a safe approach towards Spring 2012. Paint splash prints in doses of blue and red were pleated, draped, ruched and twisted. Silky jumpsuits and v-neck cocktail dresses were belted with thin metallic gold. Besides for sexy daywear, there was just a touch of sequins at the end, with a gold encrusted column evening gown. Models wore deep blue smokey eyes and side-swept fringes.

Alexander McQueen

Yet another display of creative brilliance for Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton. The underwater inspiration was visible through clusters of tulle coral, couture lace swimming caps, oyster print chiffon, pearly shell pink and a treasure cove of gold dresses. The softness of fully ruffled gowns stood out against sculpted corsets and gothic black gowns. The painstakingly elaborate detailing extended to strappy platform heels. More like pieces of art that belong in a museum rather than in a boutique.

Valentino

A dreamy and romantic Spring collection from the Italian duo behind Valentino. Pretty high-neck frocks were spun from delicate lace in shades of honeydew, lily white and black. There was also an odd shot of slinky leather dresses. Featherlight evening gowns skimmed the floor in transparent florals, dotted mesh and embroidered lace. Striking scarlet dresses stood out amidst the waves of nude chiffon.

Chanel

It was Parisian-meets-oceanic chic at Chanel's Spring 2012 showing. Karl Lagerfeld was yet another designer to use an aquatic reference in his collection. The classic Chanel pieces were all there in the usual soft-hued palette; on this occasion scattered with pearls and foamy lace. A prominent feature were lines of black ribbon zigzagged across coats and dresses. A seabed effect was created by airy organza, shouls of gathered chiffon, opalescent textiles and shimmery sequins. Models wore flat ankle boots in lustrous silver, and slicked back hair.

Chloe

Clare Waight Keller expressed urbane femininity in her first efforts for Chloé. New to brand, Keller presented a commercially friendly collection in a dependable colour scheme of soft pinks, coral, cream and beige.  Horizontal stripes and colour-blocked panels were assigned to breezy pleated dresses. Classic white shirts were paired with relaxed-fit trousers. Wide leather belts were slung around drop-waist dresses. This collection may not have all the elaborate frills of others this season, but I find that there is beauty in functionality.

Miu Miu

Capes. For Spring. If a designer-loving Red Riding Hood went to the Wild West, she would be dressed head-to-toe in Miu Miu. Miuccia Prada toyed with vampish girlyness in moody colours for Spring 2012. The idea of the 'velvet ribbon bound stole' was rendered in different lengths and quilt prints. The vintage charm of guipure lace was juxtaposed against the heaviness of patchwork and the sheen of satin dresses. Models sauntered in rose-embroidered cowboy boots, eyelids aglow with fiery red shadow.

Chanel's new No.19 POUDRE pours on Ladylike Sophistication

Flankers, my dear perfume curious people, are the adjuncts to the perfume industry's need for newness while retaining hard core brand audience and identity.
These are fragrances released to capitalise on the success of the brand and the scent of an already popular fragrance while adding a dash of 'something else' that will entice loyal fans as well as potential newbies. And there are hundreds

Blackberry & BBM Music Party - When Music and Fashion Collide

It was quite a shock. After having survived five arduous days of non stop, back to back on & off schedule London Fashion Week shows (slightly more grueling than Military Fitness Boot Camp), I needed a mental and physical break. With somewhat trepidation, Team Chutzpah and I strolled up to Sketch (read swanky restaurant/bar/club for those outside London) in the hope that we'd be fed and watered

A Romantic Makeup Collection by Chanel

Les Aquarelles de Chanel

Makeup Collection

Chanel's new makeup collection is an ode to vintage romanticism; doe-eyed beauties fluttering their delicate lashes, with flushed cheeks and rose-tinted lips. During Paris Couture Fashion Week, Chanel awed audiences, not only with their delightful dresses, but also by the ballerina-inspired makeup worn by the models.

Inspired by a 1920's watercolour painting of Coco Chanel, Les Aquarelles de Chanel reveals a softer, feminine side to makeup. Created by Chanel's makeup genius, Peter Phillips, this beautiful collection features 6 limited edition pieces.

The Look

Eyelids shimmer with an iridescent tinge of ivory, gold and grey. Cheeks are abloom with misty pink blush, blended to create a natural rosy flush. Lips are tinted in pastel pink. I love the addition and precision of the black winged eyeliner, which perfectly balances out the soft opalescent shades. The final look is dreamy and striking at the same time. If I were to have a signature makeup look, this would be it.

Top Row
Le Vernis. A sugary pink nail varnish that duly corresponds with this feminine look. The formula is strengthening and nourishing, giving you colour that is resistant to chipping.
Ombrés Tissées. The star of the collection is this scintillating eye shadow palette in a woven tweed design. With luminous shades of pink and beige that beautifully reflect off the light, it bestows a youthful glow upon eyes and cheeks.
Stylo Yeux Waterproof. Add drama to eyes with a soft-textured, silicone-enhanced and smudgeproof pencil that is easy to manoeuvre, creating smooth lines. It comes with a built-in sharpener.

Bottom Row
Jouse Contraste. A silky powered blush for natural looking cheeks, providing seamless colour that can built up to achieve the rosy hue thats right for you. There are two shades available, Rose Pétale and Pink Cloud.
Rouge Coco Shine. The Hydrating Sheer Lipshine glides on easily, and has a lightweight, moisturizing formula. Royallieu is a cherub pink lip-tint with a hint of shimmer.
Ombrés Essentielle Gris Exquis. A dove grey eye shadow that defines eyes and adds an air of mystery to your romantic look.

If I had these few products in my makeup box, I wouldn't really need much else. You can create a versatile day-to-night look that is timeless, understated and enhances your natural beauty. The products range from about R203 to R503 ($28.50 to $75), and can be purchased from the Chanel website.

Rachel Bilson for InStyle Magazine

Cover Girl Rachel Bilson

InStyle Magazine 2011

InStyle Magazine chose vivacious star Rachel Bilson to cover their special 'Makeover' issue this month. The brunette actress is noted for her off-screen style and will soon be seen on the new TV series, Hart of Dixie.

On the cover, Rachel wears a kaleidoscopic top and skirt by Proenza Schouler. Her graphic halter-neck dress was also worn by Liv Tyler earlier this year at the CFDA Awards.

Rachel takes on Audrey Hepburn's elegant style in this splendid Moschino dress. The two-tone black crepe dress is adorned with an oversized white ruffled collar and waist flounce. Her high chic bun and pearl earrings combine to recreate Audrey's classic look.

Rachel bears an uncanny resemblance to a young Cindy Crawford in this photo. She wears a caramel coloured Hervé Léger bandage dress. Isn't her hair so 80's?

Rachel is casually sophisticated in one of her favourite brands, Chanel. She wears a deep red tweed jacket with wrinkle-effect black pants. Her suede black flats with tortoise shell buckle is by Roger Vivier

Camilla Belle for Tatler Russia

Cover Girl Camilla Belle

Tatler Russia August 2011

Camilla Belle's claim to fame has more to do with her exotic good looks than her acting talents. I barely made it through her last movie, From Prada to Nada. But nonetheless, I admire her savvy style on and off the red carpet.

The Brazilian-American beauty stars in a photo shoot for the August 2011 issue of Russia's Tatler magazine. Camilla adorns the casual home & garden setting in exquisite designer wear.

Left: On the cover, Camilla lounges poolside in a navy blue off-the-shoulder buttoned top and multi-layered skirt. Her hair is elegantly set to the side in gentle waves.

Right: Playing a game of table tennis, she wears a black leather and lace jumpsuit by Chanel.

Left: Relaxing on the bed, Camilla dons a sheer black Fendi blouse sprayed with Swarovski crystals, with white Salvatore Ferragamo trousers. A gold clutch bag, diamond leaf earrings and glittered heels accessorize her look.

Right: Camilla models a white feathered Versace dress, with an Elie Tahari blouse.

Left: Camilla wears a black sequined tuxedo jacket by Dolce & Gabbana, with a white Moschino shirt and satin bow tie. Her drop diamond earrings are by Judith Ripka.

Right: Taking on the masculine trend, Camilla is sleek in a white suit by Yves Saint Laurent with black Sergio Rossi heels.

Left: One of my favourite looks, Camilla sparkles in a gold sequined jumpsuit with bow belt by Zuhair Murad. Her outfit is paired with a white Salvatore Ferragamo suit jacket, black and gold clutch and gorgeous jewels by Chopard.

Right: A simple lunch date is glamorized by a gold chainmail top with embellished sleeves, by Tom Ford. Her makeup for the shoot is kept simple, with a focus on berry red lips.

Trend of the Week - Frills

Trendspotting
Frills

I finally get to do a trend post that refers to my Blog's name. There were so many glam events this week. The haute couture shows in Paris, The 'White Fairy Tale Love Ball' and the premiere of the final Harry Potter movie. Frills were in abundance at all these fashionable gatherings.

At a photocall for the final Harry Potter movie, Emma Watson wore a sheer back lace dress by Rafael Lopez, which had a nude inner dress. The sleeves and hem were adorned with black frills.

Clemence Poésy attended the 'Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2' Premiere wearing a white Nina Ricci dress that's swirled in ruffles. I like that she paired it with a black skinny belt and black bow heels.

Alexa Chung was in Paris for Chanel's Fall 2011 Couture presentation. She wore a black cocktail dress by Chanel, naturally, which had a white frilled neckline. Black oxfords and a Chanel chain bag completed her look.

The 'White Fairy Tale Love Ball' was hosted by designer Garavani Valentino in France earlier this week. The white dress code brought about many ruffled dresses.

Margherita Missoni wore a dress from her family's design label. Her spaghetti strap gown had lines of sliver beading with layered frills at the hip and hemline.

Anne Hathaway looked like a scene out of the 'Princess Diaries' in a Valentino gown, with silver-trimmed frills. A tiara Alice band and loose waves added to her fairytale look.

Italian socialite, Bianca Brandolini d'Adda also chose a gown by Valentino. The pleated strap gown was covered in rows of small frills.

Anna Dello Russo attended the 'White Fairy Tale Love Ball' in a Roberto Cavalli gown with a fully frilled mermaid train. A rose-lined netted fascinator topped off her bridal-like look.
Emma Watson was enveloped by tons of tulle frills, in this grey Oscar de la Renta gown. She wore it to the World Premiere of 'Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2'.

Who Wore Chanel Better?

Who Wore it Better?

Chanel Dresses at the Royal Wedding

Chanel was the royal family's designer of choice at this weekend's wedding in Monaco. Two of Prince Albert's nieces wore Chanel dresses, which were both incidentally worn before by Hollywood celebrities. I find this quite strange, as these princesses-in-waiting have access to the world's best couture collections and the most exclusive designs. Why would they chose to wear outfits that were previously worn, and to Monaco's most anticipated event in the last 50 years?

Charlotte Casiraghi, daughter of Princess Caroline, wore a Chanel Spring Couture 2011 dress to her uncle, Prince Albert's wedding this Saturday. The blush pink off-the-shoulder dress has a tiered skirt, pearl buttoned bodice and black bow on the hip. Actress Diane Kruger first wore the dress almost 6 months ago, to a gala in Paris. Both ladies paired the dress with black clutch bags and high black heels. Charlotte's sandals are by YSL and Diane's are Jimmy Choo. I think Diane looks more polished, as the dress fits her better.

Pauline Ducruet, daughter of Princess Stephanie attended the wedding in a dress from Chanel's Spring 2011 RTW line. The sky blue fringed tweed dress has a Lemarié feather trim skirt. Emma Roberts wore the dress first in March, during Paris Fashion Week. Both girls paired the dress with white clutch bags. Pauline wore strappy white sandals and a skinny belt, while Emma chose metallic silver Brian Atwood heels. Emma rocks this dress, she has the personality to pull it off.

Blake Lively in Chanel

Blake Lively in Chanel

Green Lantern Movie Premiere

Chanel mascot, Blake Lively attended the premiere of her new movie, 'Green Lantern' in LA this weekend. The actress wore an angelic white gown from Chanel's Spring 2009 Couture line. The short-sleeved dress is decorated with floral appliqués and has a sheer embroidered skirt. She wore her hair to the side in a tangled plait. It's nice to see Blake wearing something other than a short, fitted dress.
