63rd Annual Emmy Awards 2011



Last night's Primetime Emmy Awards did not disappoint, with a vast range of gorgeous evening gowns worn by televisions biggest stars. It was exciting to see the multitude of different trends that emerged on the red carpet. No matter what's your style, I'm sure at least one of these gowns will enchant you as much as they have me. 



Romantic

Aubrey Plaza wears a beautiful white halter gown with ruffled neck and slight train, which is by Juan Carlos Obando. Jayma Mays is dreamy in a frilly rose-hued confection by Zuhair Murad. I like the girly combination of tulle and lace. Julia Stiles had me dazed with her stunning lavender lace couture gown by Georges Hobeika. Romantic side-swept waves completed her look. Rashida Jones is pretty in a pale pink strapless dress with belted waist by Alberta Ferretti. Cat Deeley is sensational in a gold flecked tulle ivory gown by Marchesa.

Red Haute

Kerry Washington strikes a pose in a scarlet couture gown with sheer sequined skirt by Zuhair Murad. Nina Dobrev is breathtaking in a fitted fiery red Donna Karan gown with origami upturned pleated skirt. With flawless hair and makeup, she is my choice for best dressed of the evening. Lea Michele radiates confidence in a crimson coloured Marchesa gown with rose-pleated sleeves.

Midnight Skies

Glee's Heather Morris donned a dramatic plunge-neck gown with ruffle-spun skirt. Her elevated upstyle is a tad much. Minka Kelly is poised in a navy blue long-sleeved lace dress with tiered skirt by Christian Dior. Reality star Kyle Richards takes on a modern Dynasty look in an extravagant blue pleated gown by Ines DiSanto. British actress Emily Blunt wore a textured inky blue gown with plunging neck by Elie Saab.

Embellished Earthy Tones

Mad Men's Christina Hendricks wore a curve-hugging silver Johanna Johnson gown garnished with Swarovski crystals and intricate beadwork. Mad Men's other leading lady, Elisabeth Moss opted for a nude illusion gown with ornate gold embroidery by Marchesa. Anna Faris wore a fully embellished bronze column gown. Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter glistens in a nude tulle embellished gown with thigh-high split by Tony Ward.

Simple Elegance

Bonnie Bentley is casual in a colour-blocked pleated gown by BCBG Max Azria. Katie Holmes chose a simple cobalt blue Calvin Klein dress with halter neck and metallic belt. Kate Winslet wears two major trends of the evening - red and a plunging neckline. Her dress is Elie Saab Resort 2012. Glee's Naya Rivera is sophisticated in a classic black fitted gown.

Beautiful in Black 

Game of Throes actress Lena Headey exudes elegance in long-sleeved belted gown with high round neck. I love how her unpretentious look trumps so many of the more elaborate gowns. Broadwalk Empire's Kelly MacDonald wears a fitted black gown with sheer print bodice and sleeves. Maria Menounos sparkles in black cap-sleeved sequined Emanuel Ungaro gown. She is another star who wears the side swept hair trend. Rachel Evan Wood wears a dress that's quite similar to Maria's. Her beaded gown with bateau neck is by Elie Saab.

Bedazzled

Claire Danes wears a sparkly tonal blue gown by Oscar de la Renta. Emmy Award winner Julie Bowen's silver and black beaded dress is also by Oscar de la Renta. TV anchor Brooke Anderson is dressed in a forest green one-sholdered gown sprinkled with sequins. Is that side swept waves yet again? Charlie's Angel's Rachel Taylor wears a dusky pink gown by Giorgio Armani, which is adorned in pearlescent sequins and beaded fringing. It's refreshing to see a star on the red carpet with a short bob.

Asymmetrical

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland is gorgeous in a salmon silk organza pleated gown with crystal encrusted waistband by Christian Siriano. The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco is cute in a Romona Keveza cocktail dress covered in sheer printed net. She added red accessories with Giuseppe Zanotti peep-toes and a Judith Leiber clutch. Sofia Vergara knows how to work a mermaid silhouette. The Latin beauty displays a stunning coral crepe Vera Wang gown with pleated draped detail. Aimee Teagarden's black silk shantung taffeta gown with asymmetrical neck and hem is by Romona Keveza.

Brights

Cobie Smulders stood out in a serene aqua gown with knotted sleeves by Alberta Ferretti. The How I Met Your Mother actress wears a major trend of the night - pleats. Olivia Munn's glaring green jacquard gown with matching leather belt is by Carolina Herrera. Dianna Agron's brazen blue silk dress with high draped neck and flowing train is by Roksanda Ilincic.

A Plum Affair

Friday Night Lights actress Jurnee Smollett is alluring in an aubergine Pamela Roland gown. She follows the night's trends by wearing side-swept waves and pleats. English actress Jessica Brown-Findlay wears a well-fitting long-sleeved eggplant gown with key-hole cut-out. Charlie's Angels actress Annie Ilondzeh chose a strapless silk gown in a luscious plum colour. She wears a popular designer of the night, Romona Keveza. Melissa Rauch from TV's Big Bang Theory dons an interesting violet ombre tulle gown. Kelly Osbourne's burgundy fishtail gown is by J.Mendel. A great fit on her but the lavender hair ages her by years.

Clouds Amongst the Stars

Paz de la Huerta - her peach chiffon gown could have been passable if you eliminate the extreme tan, disheveled hair-do, lilac lipstick and sinister stare. Padma Lakshmi - I would have liked to see in any other colour besides olive oil. Gwyneth Paltrow's dress feels like it's missing something - like a middle. This would have been a pretty look had it been complete. Julianna Margulies - I'd prefer her white column gown without the strategically placed crystal baubles, which somehow cheapen her look. Heidi Klum - I get that her dress is avant-garde but it looks like she's carrying a coral reef around with her.

Annual InStyle Summer Soiree

Jaime King picked out a delicate cream lace dress with black neck tie by Jason Wu. Her vintage look was accessorized with a metallic bow belt, Chanel clutch bag and pointy black heels.

Jayma Mays was delightful in a blush pink mini with satin belt by Zuhair Murad. The sheer beaded bodice is covered in draped chiffon.

Diane Kruger had on a masculine chic outfit by Jason Wu. She carries off these unusual ensembles so well. Diane wears a navy blue tuxedo blazer with formal white shirt, black shorts and a bow tie. Turquoise and black sandals and a lemon python clutch bag complete her quirky look.

Jordana Brewster makes a stylish return to the red carpet after being absent for ages. She wears a mint green pleated dress by Oscar de la Renta, with nude scalloped Valentino heels and matching mint clutch bag. I love everything about this look.





Other Great Looks

Emma Stone brings her savvy style to New York, wearing a lovely grey Chloé Resort 2012 dress with ruched bodice. Her look is enlivened with hot pink pumps by Brian Atwood.

Eva Longoria looks like a Grecian statue in a white draped gown with asymmetrical straps by J.Mendel. 

Ashley Tisdale takes a simple grey strapless dress and enhances it with great accessories. She walks in tan Joie Leo cut-out sandals, carries a cream quilted Chanel bag and tops it off with a cute floppy hat.

Katie Holmes strolls the streets of New York in a white buttoned up blouse, coral H&M skirt, black bag and sandy suede Isabel Marant ankle boots.

Camilla Belle's claim to fame has more to do with her exotic good looks than her acting talents. I barely made it through her last movie, From Prada to Nada. But nonetheless, I admire her savvy style on and off the red carpet. 



The Brazilian-American beauty stars in a photo shoot for the August 2011 issue of Russia's Tatler magazine. Camilla adorns the casual home & garden setting in exquisite designer wear.

While the rest of went on with our normal lives, another stylish week at Cannes continued. Stars pulled out all the stops at the various events held in the French Rivera this week. 

These are some of the highlights.

The classic black gown was given a twist with these four variations. Zoe Saldana was whimsical in a floral-print organza gown by Vionnet. I like the dress, just not the elasticated striped belt - it feels too casual. Gwen Stefani wowed in a shimmery fishtail gown with halter neck from her own fashion line, L.A.M.B. A gold belt accentuated her waist. Li Bing Bing wore a beautifully beaded gown by Zuhair Murad, with large chiffon bow and sash. Clemence Poesy's pleated black Chanel dress is an elegant pick, although I find the heels too high for the length of the dress.

Punchy colours brought vigour to the red carpet. Crowd pleaser Fan Bing Bing wore a pistachio green gown by Oscar de la Renta. The gown was volumized by gathered folds. I'm not fond of her Heidi-hairstyle. The stunning Alessandra Ambrosio wears an aqua Roberto Cavalli dress with embellished bodice. Actress Jessica Chastain was vibrant in a strapless sunflower yellow dress by Zac Posen. Model Bar Rafaeli donned a deep blue Roberto Cavalli gown, which fit impeccably. Her pulled back ponytail added to the sleek look. Asian actress Zhang Zilin was breathtaking in Elie Saab. The rose red chiffon dress features a lace-trimmed asymmetrical neckline and soft draping. For me, this look is perfection.

Muted tones were trendy at last night's Amfar Gala. Kirsten Dunst wore a hazy pink sheer gown with diamond shaped appliqués by Chanel. Michelle Rodriguez shows off the embellished back of her Jean Fares Couture dress. Such a pretty pale pink colour and the pockets add an interesting touch. Uma Thurman strikes a pose in a gracious grey Chanel gown with a row of roses on the neckline. Her dress also features pockets. Rosario Dawson shines in Roberto Cavalli. Her strapless dress has a silver sequined bodice and cream pleated skirt.

I can't believe I waited this long to do a feature on Zuhair Murad. When it comes to opulent evening gowns, Lebanese designers rule the runway. For his Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, Murad was inspired by the beauty of the African desert - sand dunes of the Sahara, cool blue oases and rich Egyptian gold. Brought together by luxurious fabrics, intricate details and excellent craftsmanship; the Hymne au Desert Collection is an outstanding one.

The mini dress goes from strapless to long-sleeves, coloured in golden sand, desert night sky and aquamarine. It is glamorized with exquisite beading and sequin trimmed sandals.

Goddess Gowns with mermaid silhouettes are scattered with gold leafing, paillettes, fringing and elaborate beadwork.

Fluid chiffon gowns in cool tones of sea green, aqua and yellow are decorated with gold embroidered motifs.

White togas, sprays of gold sequins, menat necklaces, metallic belts and wedding gowns fit for a desert queen.

Blake Lively stuns in this beautifully draped chiffon gown by Zuhair Murad. The actress was honoured at the Times 100 Most Influential People Gala this week (I'm guessing for her stylish fashion sense). The ombré aqua gown is from the designers' Hymne au desert Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. It was modified from the original runway look to include a beaded decolletage. Her turquoise and diamond statement ring is by Kimberly McDonald. Blake also showed off new shorter red locks - love the radiant colour on her. This is what I'd imagine Disney's real life 'Little Mermaid' to look like.

Besides for just the Oscars, there were many pre-parties and after parties held in Hollywood to celebrate the illustrious awards show. These are some of the dresses and colour trends worn by rising stars and silver screen sirens alike.



Blue

Rosario Dawson wears a bright blue wrap sequin dress with high slit by Diane von Furstenberg. Her shoes are by Brian Atwood. Kim Kardashian looks lovely in a strapless and fitted dark navy gown by J Mendel. Lea Michele glitters in blue sequins in this 70's inspired high-neck, long-sleeved dress by Roberto Cavalli. Glee's Dianna Argon wears a simple and chique chiffon navy dress with plunging neckline by J Mendel. Her peep-toe pumps are by Salvatore Ferragamo. Juliette Lewis is dressed in a midnight blue Georges Hobeika Couture gown with strapless sweetheart neckline.

Grey

Kerry Washington wears a liquid silver Escada gown with a Jimmy Choo clutch. Vanessa Hudgens looks amazing in this sparkly little number by Marchesa. I'm not too sure about the choice of sandals, which are by Sergio Rossi. Emma Robert's grey chiffon sequined gown is by Jenny Packham with clutch by Kelly Locke. Model and actress Brooklyn Decker looks beautiful in this romantic ruffle gown by Joy Cioci. I'm not so fond of Heidi Klum's mirrored dress by Julien Macdonald. She wears Christian Louboutin 'Daffodil Strauss' shoes with it.

Black 

Kate Beckinsale looks elegant in a long-sleeved black sequined gown by Julien Macdonald. Eva Mendes wears a black dress with full tulle skirt by Donna Karan and shoes by Casadei. Abbie Cornish looks stunning in a black beaded gown by Elie Saab. Alice in Wonderland actress Mia Wasikowska wears a charming guipure lace dress with cap-sleeves by Stella McCartney and peep-toes by Brian Atwood. The sultry Sofia Vergara wears a corset dress with lace panels by Zuhair Murad.

 Red 

Red dresses ruled on and off the Oscar carpet. Ginnifer Goodwin dons a quirky red satin dress with black lace detail by Erdem. Salut to Selena Gomez who chose this gorgeous Grecian-inspired dress by Dolce & Gabbana. I adore the red and pink dress worn by Zoe Saldana. The two-tone layered dress is by Prabal Gurung, with tassel bag by Louis Vuitton and pink metallic heels by Ferragamo. Anna Paquin wears a Monique Lhuillier dress with laser-cut detail on the skirt. Are she and Ginnifer wearing the same Brian Atwood 'Donna' pumps? Anna Kendrick wears a strapless mini by Marchesa with huge bow and ruffles. She paired it with black bag and heels by Christian Louboutin.

White 

Spanish actress Paz Vega wears a loose tie-waist top and full ruffled skirt by Giambattista Valli. Nicole Richie is dressed by Halston in a long-sleeve, high-slit dress with cut-out detail. Her silver python sandals are by Christian Louboutin. 90210's Jessica Lowndes wears an off-white mini with gold embroidery on the bodice. Charlize Theron is glamourous in a draped Atelier Versace gown with a Swarovski crystal design at the waist. I don't like the shape on Hayden Panettiere's Luca Luca dress, which has a high slit and gold detailing on the bodice.

Gold

Gwyneth Paltrow wears a one-shoulder jersey dress with crystal beading by Michael Kors. Taylor Swift dazzles in a strapless beaded mini by Zuhair Murad. She matched the dress with a gold clutch and sandals by Jimmy Choo. Ashley Tisdale is stylish in an antique lace asymmetrical gown by Jenny Packham. Jessica Biel glistens in a gold beaded gown by Atelier Versace. Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wears a strapless nude-toned gown by Valentino Couture. The 'Jigsaw' sandals are by Jimmy Choo.
